Description
Handyman Special – Vintage F.E. Thomas 9 1/2′ 3/2 Dirigo bamboo fly rod.
This early rod from the ‘teens would make a great example of Fred Thomas’ work once restored.
Cork grip is in excellent condition. Light wood cap & ring seat needs to be re-varnished, but is in good shape as well. Seat has the Dirigo logo stamp and a dot under a 6 on the bottom of the butt cap.
Both tips of this rod are aprox 1″ short. This rod only needs 4 guides to be re-wrapped, one snake guide replaced, and one signature wrap.
The male ferrule on the mid is missing the water seal on the end of the ferrule. This can be replaced or the end could be filled with a bit of epoxy to seal the end of the ferrule.
The rest of the rod can be restored by carefully removing the old varnish from the original intermediate wraps and guides and re-varnishing it.
Comes with the original canvas bag and brass capped bamboo tip tube.
This will make a beautiful example when finished to collect and fish!
